Commercial 3rd Party HMI

The BOR now had to make a decision about their second piece for their system: the HMI (Human-Machine Interface). Since they had built their last monitoring system, the area of Human-Machine Interface had progressed from character cell terminals to full, native, intuitive, graphical ones. This advancement of technology had its pluses and minuses for the BOR.

Pluses: the new interface was superior to the old one.
Minuses: the BOR’s schedule for completing their monitoring system was too tight for them to take the time to construct their own interface. If they were going to stay on schedule, they would have to search the market in hopes of finding an interface flexible enough for their system.

To their complete surprise and delight, Intellution had just the user interface with the flexibility they needed: the FIX/32.

The newest version of DDBS includes the following components:

Front End processors provide the communications between the RAMS data base and the external computer system, including the RTUs.
Optimization System receives instructions from area control centers and operators, assembles information from the RTUs, and provides information and control to achieve power, voltage, and water deliveries that meet system constraints.
Historian provides long term storage of operational data.
Distributed Data Manager System manages the question of the different nodes on the system.
