The Legacy System

Every newly purchased container is labeled with bar coded, pressure-sensitive polyester labels supplied by Intermec. The bar codes use Code 128 symbology. After being labeled, the container goes into circulation for filling, and once filled, is placed on a pallet with its own bar-coded label. Pallet labels are printed in-house with an Intermec 440 thermal-transfer printer. Data tracked includes: product, container identification, pallet identification, and fill date and time.

Full pallets are moved into inventory. The pallet’s label helps track its journey through inventory until shipping via a common carrier to a remote warehouse. Finally, the container is sold and delivered to an end user.

Returned containers are re-scanned. If a container is damaged, or not returned, additional fees are charged. Returned containers are normally empty, but sometimes a customer is returning an unused product or damaged containers.
