Product Bar Code Labels

There is a wide range of product labels.  For this purpose, we are going to limit our conversation to three type

Direct Thermal Labels

Direct thermal Tags, Labels and Paper are coated with a heat-sensitive layer which is imaged through direct contact with the print head.  Direct thermal media does not require a ribbon to print, making it ideal for applications in which confidentiality is critical. The result is a pattern of black dots forming text, bar codes, or graphics

Direct Thermal media images may fade over time. If the label is overexposed to heat, light, or other catalysts, the material will darken and make the text or bar code unreadable.  The readability of direct thermal labels, wristbands, and receipt papers varies greatly, depending on the usage conditions, but the technology provides ample lifespan for many common bar code printing applications including shipping labels, patient and visitor identification, receipts, In-store Product and ticket printing.

Paper is the most common material for Direct thermal Labels, but some Polypropylene Direct Labels exits.

Thermal Transfer Labels

Thermal transfer printing technology uses thermally sensitive ink ribbons to produce bar codes that are both visible light and infrared scannable.  Thermal transfer label products, available in both paper and synthetic facestocks, provide durable, high quality printing and unlimited flexibility.
